Share
I mostly use the cast-off technique for socks because I knit socks from the bottom up and, understandably, you need an elastic edge.
However, it works well for a top-down sweater, a pullover, and anything that needs an elastic edge.

The elastic cast-off, for example, for a 2 purl, 1 knit rib pattern. This technique works with all rib patterns.
1 stitch is the purl stitch, so we knit it as a purl stitch.
The next stitch is a knit stitch. Therefore, we'll make a yarn over from the back . We knit the stitch and pull it through the yarn over, then through a stitch onto the right needle.

We continue to chain off in this alternation until the end.
Have fun knitting.
